Dr. Vorderstrasse has extensive experience in psychological assessment and has spent the last several years conducting psychological evaluations with children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of presenting problems, from learning concerns and developmental delays to depression/anxiety and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  In particular, Dr. Vorderstrasse specializes in the assessment and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  She is clinically and research-reliably trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and well versed in other ASD-specific measures (e.g., Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised; ADI-R).  She spent two years in Okinawa, Japan conducting psychological assessments with US military children and studying ADHD and the comorbidity of ADHD and ASD at an international university (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology).  This experience provided her with extensive training in ADHD and the complexities youth with a dual diagnosis of ASD and ADHD experience internationally.

Dr. Vorderstrasse’s interests center on assessment of ASD and providing comprehensive psychological evaluations to children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of presenting concerns (e.g., inattention, learning challenges, behavioral difficulties).  Dr. Vorderstrasse is also passionate about assisting adolescents and young adults with transition planning and adult readiness skills (e.g., college planning, executive functioning, organization).  Dr. Vorderstrasse operates from a system’s perspective and strongly believes in collaboration with family, school, and the other health professionals involved in an individual’s care in order to provide the best outcomes.

Prior to opening SPS, Dr. Vorderstrasse worked as a staff psychologist in the Verrecchia Outpatient Clinic for Children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) at Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital in East Providence, Rhode Island, and the Fernandes Center for Children and Families (FCCF) at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts, as part of a joint program where she provided evidence-based treatments, psychological evaluations, and developmental assessments to individuals with ASD and co-occurring disorders.  During her time at Bradley Hospital, she was also a clinical instructor in the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University where she provided supervision and clinical training to psychiatry and psychology fellows in the area of ASD and developmental disabilities.

Upon moving to Rhode Island in 2017, Dr. Vorderstrasse and her family found North Kingstown an immediate home.  She enjoys hiking with her husband, two children, and corgi, traveling abroad, and is a self-described “foodie”.  Dr. Vorderstrasse is licensed in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts and finds fulfillment in providing assessment services to the individuals and families of New England.
